Melissa Laurence is a self-taught Australian artist based in the UK, creating vibrant oil paintings of flowers and birds that celebrate everyday beauty. After a 20 year career as an infant teacher and a move across the world, she returned to painting as a way of reconnecting with joy and creativity. Working in an alla prima style, Melissa completes each section wet-on-wet, using generous layers of oil paint to build rich textures and a sense of movement across the canvas. Inspired by the bold colour and expressive brushwork of the Fauve movement, her work is often described by collectors as “spring on a canvas.”
