Lucia is half-Maltese and half-German and in her final year of studying fine art at Falmouth University. Her practice mainly consists of painting and silkscreen printing. Lucia says ‘These works reflect my deep connection to the sea and growing up in Malta. All the fish I painted are dead; but the way they are shown represents a deep appreciation of the fishing culture of my homeland.’ Her paintings are distinguished by their vivid hues and intense emotional content, fusing expressionism and realism to portray the fish’s natural vitality and energy. Expressive brushstrokes heighten the impression of dynamism and gives the canvas a vibrant, almost chaotic feel.
